What I Know for Sure (Excerpt)

《我坚信》(节选)

Time is fleeting. Those of you with children are ever cognizant of this factbecause your children keep growing out of and into themselves. The goal for all of us is keep growing out of ourselves, too, evolving to our best possible lives.

时光如梭。有孩子的人更能体会到这一点，因为孩子们不断成长，长成了他们自己。我们每个人的目标也都是不断成长，进化出所能成为的最美好的自己。

Somewhere deep within me, even when I was a teenager, I always sensed that something bigger was in store for mebut it was never about attaining wealth or celebrity. It was about the process of continually seeking to be better, to challenge myself to pursue excellence on every level.

当我还是个十几岁的孩子时，在内心深处总觉得， 有一种更大的东西在等着我。但那永远不是坐拥多大家产，出多大名;而是一种不断找寻的过程，寻求迈向更好，寻求挑战自己，力争每一阶段都卓尔不凡。

What I know for sure: only when you make that process your goal can your dream life follow. That doesnt mean your process will lead you to wealth or famein fact, your dream may be nothing to do with tangible prosperity and everything to do with creating a life filled with joy, one with no regrets and a clear conscience. I've learned that, yes, wealth is a tool that gives you choicesbut it cannot compensate for a life not fully lived, and certainly cannot create a sense of peace within you. The whole point of being alive is to become the person you were intended to be, to grow out of and into yourself again and again.

我坚信：只有把这种过程当作目标，你梦想的生活才会随之而来。这并不是说， 这一过程会领着你发家成名。实际上，你的梦可能与那些看得见、摸得着的锦绣繁华无半点关联;你的梦是要全力去创造一种生活，这种生活让人满心喜乐，不带悔憾，清白无愧。至于财富，是的，我知道那是一种工具，能给人更多选择， 但却无法弥补有缺憾的人生，也肯定不能创造内心的平和。活着的全部意义在于，成为你愿意成为的那种人，一次次成长，长成你自己。

I believe you can do this only when you stop long enough to hear the whisper you might have drowned out, that small voice compelling you toward your calling. And what happens then? You face the biggest challenge of all: to have the courage to seek your dream regardless of what anyone else says or thinks. You are the only person alive who can see your big pictureand even you can't see it all. The truth is that as much as you plan and dream and move forward in your life, you must remember you are always acting in conjunction with the flow and energy of the universe.

我认为，要做到这一点，你只能停下脚步，好好地等，去倾听那个可能已经淹没的细小的声音，那个声音会推着你，跟着自己的召唤往前奔。这时候又会发生什么?你会面临最艰难的任务：不去管别人怎么说、怎么想，拿出勇气找寻你的梦。能看到你的人生图景的只有你自己，而连你都不能看到全部景致。事实是，人生之路上，无论你如何计划、梦想和前行，一定要记住始终顺势而为。

Move in the direction of your goal with all the force and verve you can musterand then let go, releasing your plan to the Power that is bigger than yourself and allowing your dream to unfold as its own masterpiece. Dream bigvery big. Work hardvery hard. And after you have done all you can, fully surrender to the Power.

朝着目标所在的方向往前奔吧，带着所有能汇聚的力量和热忱然后放下一切，把你的计划交到更加强大的命运手中，让梦一层层展现，展现它的风范。要有远大的梦想非常远大。要勤奋地工作非常勤奋。尽人事，然后，听天命。
